Gigabit Complete – WiFi Management

Last week, we were speaking with a prospective client who bemoaned the rapid decline of his WiFi network. Not long ago it worked fine. Now it’s terrible.

And just before that, we were talking with another prospective client who was eager to substitute 5 GHz for his existing 2.4 GHz technology. Surely the new technology would be better. But would it?

Perhaps more than any other service we provide, WiFi networks are a tricky and ever-changing animal. In the first instance, the addition of many nearby WiFi access points in the same frequency range had completely junked up the spectrum he was using. It didn’t take us long to find a cleaner band and switch him to it. Problem solved.

In the second instance, the WiFi signal had to penetrate several walls because of the office layout. Signals in the 2.4 GHz band are much better at penetrating walls than those in the 5 GHz band.

Since Avid began serious support for commercial WiFi networks a few years ago, we’ve learned the tricks of the trade. We recommend a particular type of equipment that yields amazing performance for the cost, and has plenty of features to serve institutions where dozens of access points are needed.
