Employee Spotlight – Jeff VanOrsdal, Chief Engineer
Many of Avid’s customers have already enjoyed the opportunity to meet our Chief Engineer – Jeff VanOrsdal.
Jeff joined Avid’s team in 2012 and has been instrumental in helping Avid support the needs of our customers. He’s also implemented new technologies that allow us to bring new services to our customers.
At Avid, we don’t hide away our most senior technical resources; they are available to work with customers to help solve network issues whenever needed. This help not only includes troubleshooting issues but working with customers to design and deploy networks of all types from simple to very complex.
Jeff is also responsible for the design and deployment of Avid’s core network. For the technical people, this includes everything from our voice switch, session border controller, core data router and firewalls and other devices that our customers rely on to provide them reliable voice and data solutions.
Since Jeff joined Avid, Google Fiber entered the market and has provided a tremendous opportunity for businesses.
Avid recognized the value of Google Fiber and immediately went to work to make sure businesses could take advantage of Gigabit speeds. Jeff worked to develop the firewall solution that Avid provides to its customers, allowing them to take full advantage of the Gigabit data speeds as well as Avid’s full complement of voice services (hosted IP phones, PRIs, SIP trunks and analog lines).
The challenge we had was to develop a firewall solution that could provide Gigabit throughput, commercial firewall, and routing requirements and be provided to our customers with no upfront charge. Mission accomplished!
When he’s not working on something technical, Jeff will likely be found working on another interest… cars! Jeff has had quite a collection of cars since joining Avid. If anyone at Avid is looking for a car, they just need to stop by Jeff’s desk to get the full rundown on all the specs and his opinion (good or bad).
We’re very lucky to have Jeff on our team and our customers have greatly benefited from his expertise and attention to details!
