Cyber Security Threats are Real – Are you Ready?

I recently had the opportunity to attend the ISC2 Cyber Security Congress in Las Vegas. The conference brings together a diverse group of over two thousand cyber security professionals and provides a forum to learn and discuss the cyber challenges facing all businesses.
First off, I have to say it was refreshing to attend an in-person conference after two plus years of the pandemic forcing conferences to be canceled. I’ve become so accustomed to Zoom and Teams calls over these past couple of years that I have forgotten how great it is to meet new people and network face-to-face.
From Artificial Intelligence to Quantum Computing
The conference was three intense days of sessions with over 100 topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence to Quantum Computing. Now I realize most of you are thinking that sounds frigging horrible — but for 2,000+ certified cyber security nerds like myself, this was pure heaven. As I reflect on all the informative topics and discussions there were three key points that kept repeating and are worth sharing with everyone.
- 98.5% OF SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE NO CYBER SECURITY PROFESSIONALS
- THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF SKILLED CYBER SECURITY PROFESSIONALS
- CYBER CRIMES CONTINUE TO INCREASE
Here’s a bit of a spoiler alert, that 98.5% stat about small businesses seemed to be a surprise to most at the conference but it wasn’t a surprise to me or the rest of the team here at Avid Communications. Avid has always focused on delivering quality products and services to main street America that would typically be too costly or out of reach for a business with limited technical resources.
